People in Delhi began the Chaitra Navratri on Thursday with prayers in temples across the national capital marking the first day of fasting.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta started her day with a visit to the famous Jhandewala Devi Temple marking the first day of Navratri and offered prayers to Goddess Durga. She prayed for the happiness, prosperity, and well-being of the people of Delhi and performed special rituals in the temple premises reflecting her deep faith in the divine feminine power.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Gupta said that the Navratri symbolizes country’s rich cultural heritage, devotion, and strength. The Chaitra Navratri is a sacred festival which is part of the Indian culture that symbolizes power, faith, and new beginnings.

The nine-day celebrations are an opportunity to worship the various forms of Maa Adi Shakti, where devotion is combined with resolve for self-discipline, spiritual practice, and positive energy, she said.
The CM also noted that the festival inspires people with positive energy, inner strength and a spirit of service towards the entire society. She expressed hope that Maa Durga’s blessings continue to guide everyone, bring peace, happiness and prosperity into their lives.
Interestingly, after her visit to the temple and prayers, the CM attended a devotional music event titled ‘Bhajan Clubbing’ held nearby. Soulful bhajans and devotional performances during the special event filled the surroundings with an air of spirituality. Appreciating the event, the CM said such cultural and spiritual gatherings play an important role in bringing communities together also spreading positivity.
“Devotional music not only keeps traditions alive, but also strengthens unity, peace and harmony in society,” she added.
Gupta said the increasing participation of youth in events like Bhajan Clubbing is both encouraging and inspiring, while she emphasized that such initiatives are helping connect the younger generation with the country’s cultural as well as spiritual roots. She reiterated that her government remains committed to preserving and promoting cultural and spiritual traditions, and will keep encouraging such initiatives.
